PTSD
What is PTSD?
I am a Crisis and Trauma Clinical Hypnotherapist specialising in helping my clients overcome trauma and symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Symptoms can include anxiety, panic attacks, anger, disrupted sleep, flashbacks, nightmares, physical pain, disassociation and even digestive issues. This list is by no means exhaustive. Unresolved stress and trauma can cause numerous health problems in any sufferer.
PTSD is often associated with military personnel and first responders but it can occur in anyone who has experienced trauma such as physical, emotional or sexual abuse, an accident, a death, traumatic childbirth, serious/terminal illness diagnosis or neglect in childhood. The symptoms may be severe enough to disrupt social and occupational function, exacerbating many of the symptoms.
Sufferers will often find themselves self-medicating and “using”substances such as alcohol and narcotics to numb the emotional and physical pain that trauma can cause the mind and body. They also have an increased risk of suicide as they can see no way out and do not feel able to ask for help.
How Can I Help You?
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a powerful, drug-free tool which has been used to eliminate these symptoms since the First World War, where it was originally used to treat military personnel suffering from what was known as “shell shock” – now known as PTSD.
Sadly the symptoms do not go away on their own. Our brain is equipped with an alarm system (the amygdala) to ensure our survival and those who have experienced trauma have been found to produce high amounts of fight or flight hormones even when there is no danger. This keeps us in survival mode all the time and unable to relax. This will shrink your window of tolerance, which is the amount of stress you can handle before it becomes unmanageable. This means you may be set off by smaller events or have a trauma response when others might not.
Though PTSD symptoms can run deep, the brain and the nervous system remain modifiable and healing is possible.
Using my method of Crisis and Trauma Clinical Hypnotherapy alongside several other self-care strategies such as eating a nutrient-dense diet, practicing Pilates, developing a mindfulness or meditation practice and energy healing such as Reiki, I can help you overcome these symptoms. I can help you (and your loved ones) get back to living a life of joy and freedom.
