Weekly Wellness Tips
Sunday 7th April 2024

Welcome to the first post of my weekly wellness series! I wanted to share a tip every week – however big or small – that I experience the benefits of and think you should too.

The first week of April is over! And with that, the first week of BST. Now that the mornings are earlier and the evenings longer, I wanted to draw your attention to the importance of getting exposure to sunlight (or just daylight, if you live in the UK) as early as possible in the morning.

Doing this helps the body to regulate the circadian rhythm, which is so often disrupted by artificial lights, sunglasses, and phone scrolling! Getting early sunlight exposure will:

  • encourage appropriate hormone secretion, metabolic activity and regulate body temperature.
  • Improve mood due to the dopamine release
  • Increase focus and drive as you go about your day following the release of adrenaline and cortisol
  • Promote muscle recovery due to natural infrared light exposure
  • Promote eye cell function
  • Prepare your body to sleep 16 hours later

Weekly Wellness Tips
Sunday 21st April 2024

As a therapist, one of the most important wellness tips I like to remind clients and myself of is taking time for yourself and your family – it is like recharging your emotional batteries. I like to call this intentional rest because it is still mindful time spent, but it is easy and energising. It helps prevent burnout, improves your well-being, and strengthens your relationships. It’s about nurturing yourself and the bonds that matter most to you. Life is short – how you spend each day is how you live your life. As a single parent I am very conscious of the financial pressures that weigh on so many of us, and the instinct to work incessantly. But I encourage you to maintain perspective – remember how important it is to take some intentional rest and nourish your spirit!

It’s important that I am able to remain focussed and emotionally balanced for my clients and time away gives me space and clarity.

Here are some examples of intentional rest I enjoy:

  • Walks in peaceful places (along the river, in a park)
  • Long and relaxed meal time with family
  • A hot bath
  • Sitting on the sofa with my kids (maybe watching the Real Housewives, my guilty pleasure)
  • Sunbathing
  • Soundbaths

Personally, time with my children is the best way for me to unwind. Here are some moments from our trip to Crete 🫂🤍
